JESUS, THE BEST AUTHOR OF OUR LIVES

It is the new month of October, and I have decided to bring you the info about our very own, founder and CEO of Christ-seasoned, Ms. Thandile Malunga. I had fun during our interview and I have learned a lot of which I believe You are also going to grab a thing or two. May this strengthen your faith in what God has entrusted you with as you read… Enjoy!!

WHO IS THANDILE?
The most important thing about me is that I am a child of God, I am the second born of four, I am a writer, a brand owner, a content creator, producer, and co-host of a Radio show on Itheku FM. I hold a degree BSC Hydrology and currently Pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Screen Arts and Technology.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE JESUS, AND PLEASE TELL US HOW AND WHEN YOU HAD AN ENCOUNTER WITH GOD?
Well, I cannot say I have chosen Him, He chose me because growing up almost everyone I grew up with, we were all introduced to church but not all of us are still in that route, some otherwise. I encountered the Lord personally when I was in varsity, that’s when I felt that He was so alive in my prayers, my worship and, my life. I remember that day so vividly, we had a conference at school when He deposited the gift of tongues to me. I have never doubted His presence in my life and how He hears me whenever I prayed but that day, He put a stamp on it all. That experience was so sweet like every other encounter after that and an encounter with God is unmatched.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR WALK WITH CHRIST, HOW HAS IT BEEN?
OH “sighs” it has been rough! I was in high school (2008) when chose Jesus as my Lord and savior. I was told that if I keep certain things, do certain things, stop certain things my life will be smooth. So, thought let me do as tell and everything will go smooth and in order; things like varsity will be a smooth sail then I will get a great job, buy a house, buy a car and get married and have my own kids and all man, Jesus will reward me for my good works. I thought by me keeping the laws, don’t date, don’t have sex before marriage, don’t drink or smoke, etc. everything else would just be perfect but it didn’t happen that way. It has been a roller coaster for me, it’s been crazy and nothing like I was made to believe. God introduced me to His plan, and He gives me the strength to accept His way and made me understand that He is not what I was told and doesn’t do things the I was told. I truly believe that encountering Him in varsity played a huge role in the peace that I have with how everything is going, and I would still choose Him repeatedly.

HOW DO YOU RELATE THE YOUNGER VERSION OF YOURSELF AND THE THANDILE WE SEE TODAY?
Mhhh, the younger me was very artistic, she loved reading, writing, and making up stories. She wanted to be the next South African Gcina Mhlophe. The Thandile you see now is slowly but surely going back to that person. Me being a blogger means I am back in writing, I also read a lot, and being in the radio ‘sphere I believe it’s going back to my artistic self. I think I am working towards living up to my dream, what I always wanted to be.
How did the career change come about? From Bsc to BA and the media space (Blogging, Brand owner, Radio host, etc.)
After completing matric, I took an unplanned gap year, and that is when I was told that; “You are so smart Thandile, you need to do something science-related.” So, I opted for Hydrology since I couldn’t get into Chemical Engineering. After obtaining my BSc in Hydrology in 2017, I couldn’t find a job. 2019, God took me to Johannesburg, I met some amazing people there who became my friends. I was somehow in isolation as my mom worked during the day, so I spend the whole day by myself. I used that time to read and meditate on the word of God, I would preach to myself by making videos using my phone, read and write. That is when I found my way back to the dreams of my younger self, I realized that I need a change of career. Then 2020 I enrolled for the BA degree, June I started the blog, I believe God’s timing is everything because I have always wanted to blog but it was not time yet. Radio production and co-hosting came unexpectedly, and I believe it can only be God. My classmate who is an amazing lady hooked me up, she was supposed to be the one taking the job, but she thought no let me give this one to Thandile and I was shocked. They wanted me to help with content creation only to find myself co-hosting. Same as the brand, it’s God, I made a t-shirt for myself in honor of the blog and people demanded that they wanted it too, so I gave people what they want!

WHAT IS CHRIST-SEASONED AND WHY THIS NAME?
Christ-Seasoned is an umbrella for everything that Christ will put in my heart to do, for now, there is the blog and the brand. The name started with the blog and that’s because I wanted everything written in here to be about Christ. I remember I had three names written down and I wasn’t sure which one to go with and then a little sister/ daughter (Pam) reminded me of how we should pray about everything, so we asked God to help us choose. So, God told us Christ-seasoned and Christ-seasoned it is and so, everything we write here is seasoned with Christ and when you wear the brand, you are automatically seasoned with Christ!
There are many Christian brands out there, what makes yours stand out?
Yes, there are, and most of them are doing great, hence I was so hesitant to start mine not knowing if I was going to get customers or not, but God. He reminded me of my purpose and that there are people who will only buy this brand and hear the message it sends just because it is sold by me. Now and then God proves to me that this is His plan and it’s in His will and I thank Him for that. What makes it stands out is that it is everything about Christ and for Christ, nothing about it is outside Christ.

TO SOMEONE WHO JUST STARTED OR WANTS TO START THEIR OWN BRAND, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
To someone who has already started I would say keep it up, don’t lose hope, sometimes it will not be as expected, there will be few or no orders but keep going you’ve got this. To the one who wants to start, I will advise them to start now, flow with the ideas that you have, don’t overthink it, just start. The God who gave you the brand or business idea will provide you with the customers rest assured.

BEING A YOUNG, SINGLE LADY OWNING A BRAND. WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE?
Having to always share my contact details with almost everyone, at times I get DM’s, texts and calls that might come on the name of business, and I cannot just reject because I don’t want to miss my customers. I always must set boundaries for myself and for the brand and that helps a lot.

WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING WHEN THE GO GETS HARD?
I draw my inspiration from God by prayer, the Word and Worship. I write letters to God, and I love listening to Him for direction, so yea its God

DO YOU PERHAPS HAVE A SONG OR SCRIPTURE THAT KEEPS YOU GOING, WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE GIVING UP?
I have a lot of those to share a few; “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and not in your own understanding (Prov 3:4)” and song lately it’s; Ukufezwa kwa madinga by Ncebakazi, Ngaphesheya by Sindy Ntombela and Miracles on miracles by Maverick city, songs change all the time, but the main song is “Angi soze ngahlukana nongithanda kangaka njalo sothanda naye, khona la, khona le”

WHAT IS PURPOSE TO YOU? DO YOU THINK YOU ARE WALKING IN IT?
As a Christian my definition of Purpose is doing the will of God, glorifying God in everything we do, testifying to others about God, and attesting that God is alive. So, yes, I would definitely say I am walking on purpose because everything I do, be it Blogging, Radio, writing, etc. it is all for the glory of God.

WHERE DO YOU SEE CHRIST-SEASONED IN THE LONG RUN?
Like I said that Christ seasoned is an umbrella that has a blog and a brand right now, I see us growing into many more amazing and great spheres things like; production company, publishing house, owning our own store that will be selling everything for Christ-Seasoned and I believe God has more so yeah!

YOU ARE NOT ONLY A BRAND OWNER, YOU WEAR MANY CROWNS. HOW DO YOU MAKE TIME FOR EVERYTHING AND STILL FIND TIME TO NOURISH YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?
I love being busy, it keeps me sain though it gets hard to keep with everything when one is busy but I believe the saying that says people make time for what matters to them is true! Making a to do list work charm for me, I even include that I must check up on my family/friends or loved ones in my to do list. With everything that I am busy with right now and trying to prepare for what I would embark on in future it’s kinder too much, but you must make time always. I love what I do, and I do what I love and I am grateful for that and all I have to do is show up at all time and that makes me happy! I can’t go a day or do anything without God so it’s a must that I spend time with Him, it’s Him above it all!
