A PRODUCT OF ANSWERED CONSISTENT PRAYERS

A 20 something-year-old, young but not that young (LOL) amazing lady Sindiswa Ntombela (Umtanakibo). Born and bred in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal and currently stays there, is a true representative of the word in John 4:23. Which says, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” She does that so naturally, she is an anointed worshiper, and a recording artist at Shammah records, she is also a writer who writes her own songs. Speaking of a multitalented lady, she also holds a degree in Journalism (an artist in all angles). She doesn’t just sing and write gospel songs, she is a born-again Christian, who is sold out to Christ and His people. She describes herself as being a bubbly person who loves playing around, I can attest to that because I had an amazing first encounter with her, she is a force to reckon with!

WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST ENCOUNTER WITH GOD?

With me being a Preacher’s kid, you would think my earliest encounter with God was much earlier in life, but it was in grade 7/8 that’s when I started to understand God better. The cloud that was covering my eyes got removed from grade 7 going to grade 8 and I started to understand God for myself. I went to High School a full repented born-again Christian.

HOW HAS YOUR JOURNEY WITH CHRIST BEEN?

It’s been a roller coaster, meaning it has gone through all the seasons; rocky, smooth, easy, hard, etc. it has been quite a journey that has taught me to trust God with all of me and depend not on resourceful people or any person for that matter just Him. He is the one who will bring the right people in my journey, and He does that with no-fail, so yeah, my journey has been like that so far.

DID YOU ALWAYS WANT TO DO MUSIC AS A CAREER?

Most definitely, Music and Drama were my first choice when I applied for varsity, but my Dad was against it. So, I opted for Journalism because I just wanted to be in media, the production part of it. That was mostly propelled by the fact that I grew up very shy so I thought being in the production side of media will be perfect for me since only fewer eyes would be on me that side. I knew I have the talent, but I doubted myself and thought others were better than me or can do it but not me but going deeper into the word of God and even studying it further in bible college (2016) changed me completely. I started developing so much love for worshiping God as I knew God better and started getting closer to Him, I realized something more about Him, and my love was revived. When I wrote “UNGAMBONA” and “KUNOMUNTU UNENDABA NAMI” which are both from my previous album which was released in 2019, I learned to know that God can do anything, He can sing, dance, worship, laugh, and many more. So, reading the word of God made me understand Him better, He sent me to bible school so that I could learn more about Him, I didn’t understand at first, but He always knows best and in every journey. He sees us through for a reason. He made me the way He wanted me to be through the journey He took me and saw me through by His word!

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR MUSIC, WHO HAVE YOU WORKED WITH?

Yhoo, I have worked with so many people and it’s really humbling, people like Lebo sekgobela, Doctor Tumi, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Ayanda Ntanzi, Londiwe Masondo, Ntokozo Ngongoma, and Dumi Mkokstand who I am currently working with, I recently worked with Joyous celebration and that can only be God, etc. I have worked with a lot of people, and it’s been a great experience since I get to learn a lot from each one of them especially the older ones.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOU, FROM NOW ONWARDS?

Right now, I am preparing for my live recording launch, and I am super excited for that one, it will be in December this year and I am trusting God for a tour all around South Africa. I am also believing God for open doors even outside the country. I am trusting God for everything that I want to see as I have always done so. It is pressed in my heart that I want to see more, I want to see the Lord’s glory, I want to see people getting healed as I worship God using His word. I am praying that as I stand up and worship God, He would do the most to His people, reveal Himself to them, meet their deepest needs, and many more things. I know that will call for me to follow God’s terms and conditions like being Holy and I am willing to do all that so that I can see the goodness of God in the Land of the living (Psalm 27:13)

I HAVE TO SAY YOU ARE DOING GREAT NOT JUST AS A MUSICIAN BUT ALSO AS A WORSHIPER, HOW DOES IT FEEL BEING A NOMINATED MUSICIAN?

It’s amazing! It shows you that someone out there sees you, sees your work, and recognizes you and the work you put in. This gives you hope and encourages you to do more, put in the work, and give it your all. I just recently performed on INGOMA AWARDS which are the awards I was nominated in and that was amazing, which was followed by the Joyous celebration performance, it’s all amazing, encouraging, and humbling all at once. God is really shocking me, which proves that indeed there is someone who cares about (She said referencing her song, KUNOMUNTU UNENDABA NAMI. You should check it out).
This all makes me remember Elizabeth saying: “How kind the Lord is! He has taken away my disgrace of having no children” (Luke 1: 25). This is because there were times when I thought, “Yes I love music but maybe this is not really my calling or where I should be and what I should be doing. Maybe I should do something else.” It was silent, I prayed so much but nothing happened, but I held on to prayer even though I saw nothing. I kept on proclaiming the name of God and calling the things I wanted to see, in prayer, I prayed so much even though I couldn’t see the results earlier. Then one day when I couldn’t pray anymore, I saw fruits of the days when I prayed showing up. At first, I was like; “Wait up, is this God or the enemy trying to trick or test me?” through it all, I have learned that God’s timing is everything, you pray and wait and in His own time, God will show up and answer all your prayers and even go beyond!

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES THAT COME WITH BEING A YOUNG, SINGLE CHRISTIAN MUSICIAN?

My biggest challenge had to be finances, which I could have easily gotten from people around me, they could have easily given me, but God didn’t allow that. I went all out and pitched my DVD idea to them, asked for sponsorship but nobody came forth to help. I prayed and asked God like a mad person, I even wrote my request for money to God in a 2-quire book God. I remember even writing the amount in my book and it kept changing because I kept trusting God that one day, I will get this money even if it’s not from the people who are not giving me a direct answer but one day I will. It’s been two years of wanting to do this live recording and I believed God for it, but it never happened due to finances but God! Finances have been my hugest struggle, I remember when I started music, I use to wear my mom’s clothes and when I worked with Avodah I would wear Leko’s clothes since we were a group and had to wear the same clothes (Uniform). People who looked at me and saw a well-presented young lady not knowing where I came from.

With everything happening in my life right now all I see is God. When Dumi called me to come and work with him I was busy praying and telling God that I am not moving without Him saying I should. That call came, I remember clearly I was at home and it was raining, so I was sitting next to the stove to keep myself warm. It was a Wednesday which is my usual prayer day where I fast and pray, during that call he asked me if I still pray and am I still saved because God has placed a burden in Him about me that He should help me in my music career. All that was God coming through for me as I dedicated myself to Him through prayer and His word. Everything that I am and everything that is happening, it’s all through God.
Another challenge must be holiness, you would think you are the only one who is loved and then jeopardize holiness in the process. Yes, there is charisma, but the enemy tends to use that for his benefit. So, be aware to always live a holy life! Guys know that as a young woman what you want to hear mostly from a man is the; “I will marry you” words and when he doesn’t do that then you get crushed in a way so be aware of that.

Lastly, one must be very sensitive, even if things are not happening spiritually but physically be sensitive because those things speak volumes about your spiritual life, be woke. This calls for a close relationship with Christ so work on that tirelessly!

TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO START THEIR CAREER IN MUSIC WHAT CAN YOU SAY?

My brother once said this “Pray and do whatever you have to do but don’t do what you are not supposed to do.” That is what will help you in this journey, it’s not an easy journey but if you pray and do what you are supposed to do while avoiding what you are not supposed to do then you will survive the journey.
Also, you must be grounded, submit what you must submit, ask for help if you must, have connections, speak to people but in all that, don’t do anything that you are not supposed to do. You know very well what you are supposed to do and what you are not supposed to do, do so and you are likely to succeed in your career.
Lastly, be alert. Your relationship with Christ must not be affected by anything. Be vigilant, be wise, be always alert, be sober-minded, and have your mind open at all times, don’t be relaxed even if people see you as being jumpy it’s okay, it’s for your own good! Then pray for what you want to see and one day it will come to pass and mostly make sure music is what you are called for not just for fame and all the great things that come with it because it takes hard work, determination, not giving up, etc. before it all comes to be!
